Local Related Efforts

Several other feasibility or planning studies of possible Express Lane projects are underway in the region.

The Riverside County Transportation Commission (RCTC) is in the process of working with the Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) to extend the SR 91 Express Lanes into Riverside County and is studying the potential for Express Lanes in the I-15 corridor.

The San Bernardino Associated Governments (SANBAG) is studying possible Express Lane implementation in the I-10, I-15 and SR 210 corridors.

OCTA is including an Express Lane option in its proposed I-405 widening project between I-605 and SR 55.

In coordination with the Metro ExpressLanes project, the City of Los Angeles began upgrading signage, parking and meters as part of the Downtown ExpressPark project.

National and Worldwide Examples

Congestion pricing is operating in many areas of the world and also in the United States, and it manages traffic effectively, improves traffic flows and reduces travel time along with congestion.  Pricing projects have been implemented in a number of places in Europe, Asia, Canada and Australia - for example, cordons in Singapore, London, Oslo and Stockholm; variably-priced toll roads and bridges in Australia, Canada and other countries; and truck weight and distance fees in Germany and several other European Union countries and in New Zealand, among many other examples.  In the U.S., express lanes have been the common version of pricing and have been implemented in a number of cities, including State Route 91 in Orange County and Interstate 15 in San Diego County.
